Bataung Qhotsokoane, 32, is a digital pioneer blending technology, journalism and justice to promote inclusive artificial intelligence literacy in Africa. As editor-in-chief of iAfrikan Media, he has published more than 95 tech articles, offering in-depth commentary on digital policy, AI, and African innovation. He is a 2025 Mandela Washington Fellow and media partner to the Deep Learning Indaba. Through the Northern Cape Computer Hub, a nonprofit he founded, Bataung has trained more than 700 youth, women and people with disabilities in digi- tal literacy, cybersecurity and AI fundamentals. His tech pro- grammes are designed to be culturally relevant, with initiatives for communities, such as the !Kun and Khwe. His passion for acces- sible technology stems from a desire to reimagine African futures with connectivity, digital skills and innovation. He has presented internationally and advocates for digital reforms, including uncapped, affordable internet and a National Digital Literacy Framework. He believes that without meaningful connectivity, millions will be locked out of AI opportunities. Currently completing his LLB at Unisa, he holds global credentials in cybersecurity and AI, and brings a rare intersectional lens to digital rights.
