Profile

From fixing classroom projectors to presenting cybersecurity findings in Parliament, Veer Bishen Gosai, 19, is turning technical talent into lasting impact. A tech innovator, investigator and student, Veer merges education, ethics and digital access in all he does. As founder of Taptic, he leads one of South Africa’s most impactful edtech platforms. His flagship site, SA Papers, has delivered over seven million sessions, offering free academic content to high school learners — and expanding reach into Rwanda and Namibia. While pursuing geoinformatics and computer science at Stellenbosch University, Veer balances coding, entrepreneurship and public interest work. For GroundUp  News, he co-led a national investigation exposing abuse within the  R370 Sassa grant system, culminating in his appearance before Parliament. His independent security disclosures, including a major Nedbank client vulnerability, underline his ethical commitment to protecting users. “Get your act in order,” his mother told him — advice he credits with keeping him grounded while scaling ideas that serve. Veer is proving that digital innovation, when led by values, can uplift generations.

Mentors

Nathan Geffen, editor of GroundUp, has provided me with invaluable guidance in dealing with the SASSA SRD mass fraud story. He has been a consistent mentor, particularly in helping me navigate the complexities of journalism and reporting on sensitive issues. His background in computer science allowed us to develop a clear mutual understanding of concepts, which played a major role in my professional development and personal growth in the field.
