A White House invite for Mandela

President George Bush will invite Nelson Mandela to visit the White House as soon as he is freed, presidential representative Marlin Fitzwater said last night.

”President Bush will invite him to Washington for a visit as soon as it is convenient for him,” the White House press secretary said. She said ”there are indications” Mandela will be released today.

”We don’t know for sure. We will certainly support his release. We’re hopeful he will be,” Fitzwater said — Sapa.
