More embarrassment for Gauteng Lions

MONDAY, 1.30PM:

WESTERN Province beat Gauteng Lions 53-16 in a Bankfin Currie Cup match at Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday. Province led by 24-3 at the interval.

Province attacked around the scrum and easily found gaps in the Lions’ defence. They scored seven tries and two penalties. The Lions replied with two tries and two penalties.

Louis Koen made his presence felt in the Lions’ defence and contributed 23 points — six conversions, two penalties and a try. Lions have themselves to blame after trying hard to secure good balls, but the possesion was squadered behind the scrum.
