US BEATS CAMEROON

TAYLOR Twellman scored two goals and Carlos Bocanegra added a third as the United States beat Cameroon 3-1 on Sunday to advance to the second round of the World Under-20 Youth Soccer Championship. The United States and Cameroon each finished Group B play with six points. The United States was 2-1 in group play after an opening 1-0 victory over England and a 3-1 loss to Japan. The Americans opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Twellman, with only goalkeeper Bayiha Ndjama to beat, fired a low shot from 12 yards (meters) following a pass from Lee Morrison. The United States made it 2-0 in the 58th minute on a Bocanegra header. Cameroon scored in the 64th minute when Francis Kioyo drove a free kick from just inside the area through the defensive wall and beneath diving goalkeeper Tim Howard. Twellman sealed the victory in the 80th minute when he burst into the box and shot past Ndjama.
