BUS DRIVERS MARCH

STRIKING transport workers are planning to march to the Johannesburg offices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration on Monday afternoon, half an hour before a scheduled meeting between four major transport unions and the South African Bus Employers Association. “We want to put pressure on the employers to settle the strike today,” Transport and General Workers’ Union spokesman Zakhele Sibego said on Monday. About 18 000 bus drivers, administrative staff and workshop employees have been on strike since Thursday last week. Workers are demanding an 11% wage increase; management has offered 6%. The workers will asemble at Kine Centre in Commissioner Street and will march to the CCMA offices in Simmonds Street at 1.30pm.
