A REGIONAL leader of the National Union of Mineworkers in Carletonville was killed on Thursday by a group of miners in the town. SABC Radio News reported that Selby Mayisha was addressing about a thousand mineworkers at the West Driefontein mine about benefit payments. He suggested that they opt for benefit payment over a period of three to four years. The miners, who wanted the money paid out in a lump sum, disagreed with Mayisha and attacked him and his colleagues. Mayisha was killed and four of his colleagues were injured. According to media reports NUM spokesman, George Molebatsi, said the issue over which Mayisha is killed are “very sensitive”.
