Namibian internationaal sticks with Thistle

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Glasgow | Monday 1.00pm.

NAMIBIAN international Quinton Jacobs says he will keep his word to join lowly Partick Thistle, despite interest in the midfielder from Dutch giants Ajax and Belgian outfit Anderlecht.

Jacobs, 20, is set for a debut in the Scottish League Cup tie against Alloa after refusing to go back on a verbal agreement he made to join Second Division Partick.

The two European giants were impressed by Jacobs in a recent international against Congo but the lure of top class soccer has not been enough to sway him. Partick are still awaiting clearance from the Department of Employment to bring Jacobs to Scotland, but Jags secretary Alan Dick confirmed he should soon be on his way once the red tape is sorted out.

“People might think it odd that Quinton should choose a smaller club but he was delighted with how we looked after him,” he said. “We have heard nothing from the DoE but Quinton satisfies every criteria,” Dick added.

“Quinton was named man of the match in Congo and afterwards he was approached by officials from Anderlecht and Ajax. But he told them both the same thing. He had already given his word that he would sign for Partick and he would not go back on it.”–AFP Guardian’s Football Unlimited
