SOUTHERN Gauteng scored an upset 2-1 victory over Western Province in the final of the men’s hockey inter-provincial on Saturday. Western Province were the favourites to walk off with the title following their unbeaten record in the tournament and having beaten Southerns before. Defending champions KwaZulu-Natal finished third after an 11-0 thrashing of Northern Transvaal, inspired by a six-goal blitz from national team member Greg Nicol. Hosts Eastern Province claimed fifth place after their 3-1 victory over Natal Midlands.
