THE Nigerian customs service has arrested six Ghanaians for smuggling 96 sackloads of guns and ammunition into the country. Customs official Dele Omodara says the men were arrested on Monday in Lagos’s beach district with 72000 rounds of live ammunition and an unspecfied number of guns loaded in 96 sacks. The arrest followed a tip-off. The Ghanaians, disguised as fishermen, claimed to have been hired by some unnamed Nigerians to ferry the consignment to the country. The six men will soon appear in court and face up to 21 years in jail if convicted.
