VIOLENCE, DEATHS AT KIMBERLEY CONCERT

TWO people were shot dead and four others wounded during a shootout between security officers and the audience at a music festival in Kimberley over the weekend. A scuffle broke out late Saturday at the concert, in a stadium in the Northern Cape town, when the 20000 concert-goers became restless after certain performers did not arrive, a police spokesman said. Some people among the crowd apparently started throwing bottles on stage and security members retaliated by shooting, causing some individual members of the crowd to shoot back at the security personnel, leading to people running for cover to all directions. Extra security staff called into the stadium were stoned by the crowd and forced to abandon their vehicles and patrol on foot.
