FOURTEEN people, including a ten-year-old child, were killed in a shootout between policemen and pro-government militia in Cubal, southern Angola, informed sources said on Saturday. The shooting broke out when a militiaman refused to buy a ticket costing about one US cent to enter the local football stadium. Police and militiamen traded automatic weapons fire until armed forces units equipped with heavy weapons intervened. Panicked residents fled their homes, fearing that rebels led by Jonas Savimbi, active in the area, had launched an attack on the town, Catholic radio reported.
