NIGERIAN LNG EXPORTS BEGIN

THE first exports from the multinational Nigerian liquefied natural gas plant to buyers will commence in two weeks, the company said Wednesday. The shipment was originally scheduled for October 1, but had to be shifted due to local protests by the host communities at Bonny, southeast Nigeria, Nigeria LNG said. “Meanwhile, production has been resumed at the LNG plant with the loading of the waiting ship whose sailing may not be delayed for more than two weeks,” a company spokesman said. Enel of Italy, Enagas of spain, Botas of Turkey, Gaz de France and Transgas of Portugal are expected to buy 5,78-million tonnes of gas from Nigeria LNG annually. The company officials met with President Olusegun Obasanjo and representatives of the Bonny communities before the truce was brokered, spokesman Andy Odeh said in Lagos. He said although the plant has a daily capacity of 6000 tons, it now produces 3000 tons due to faulty facilities.
