NINE DEAD IN NEW BUS CRASH

NINE people were killed and at least 15 injured in yet another bus crash, the ninth in just over two weeks, police said on Friday morning. The accident, which occured late on Thursday night, brought the total number of dead from the recent spate of crashes to 90 with 270 people wounded. The bus had stopped on the hard shoulder of a motorway near Verkeerdevlei, to the northeast of the central town of Bloemfontein, due to mechanical problems when a lorry slammed into it. The government recently introduced stringent new regulations governing the passenger transport industry following a string of deadly crashes, including the death of 26 British tourists at the end of September.
