MOROCCO and China signed a series of economic cooperation agreements on Thursday following talks between visiting President Jiang Zemin and King Mohammed VI. The accords assert both countries’ desire to broaden relations, said Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao. China will also provide a preferential loan to Rabat, Zhu added. Sources said the loan totalled $60-million dollars. Beijing offered to provide Morocco with a nuclear-powered desalination plant but Zhu said Rabat wanted to weigh the environmental impact of the technology first. The two countries also pledged to bolster trade.
