ETHIOPIA FOOD AID ON ITS WAY

SOME 30000 tons of food aid from the European Union has arrived in Djibouti on its way to drought-stricken Ethiopia, the European Commission said on Monday. The EU grain shipment arrived on Sunday, and will be followed later in the week by an additional 17000 tons. During the Africa-EU summit in Cairo last week, the 15-nation EU explored ways to speed up delivery of a total 800000 tons of food aid earmarked for Ethiopia this year. The UN Children’s Fund said on Thursday that 900000 tons of food aid are urgently needed to feed eight million Ethiopians hit hardest by failed or late rains and an intermittent conflict with Eritrea.
