OPENER Herschelle Gibbs, named in the match-fixing scandal surrounding Hansie Cronje, says he’s relieved to have been cleared of any wrongdoing by his former captain. Gibbs was one of four players, including Cronje, named by Indian police in their investigations into match-fixing during a recent tour of the subcontinent earlier this year. But Cronje, who was sacked as skipper on Tuesday after admitting he had accepted money from a bookmaker, said on Wednesday that no other member of the side had done anything wrong. “Obviously it’s very good hear him say that,” said Gibbs. “Those who have been named are relieved, we have not known anything about it from the word go — we were completely shocked. “It is reassuring that Hansie has said that but the issue is still in the back of our minds. It’s difficult to ignore it because wherever you go you are being questioned about it. “We have got to try and be as professional as possible now and get on with the job in hand.” Gibbs was preparing for the second one-day international of a three-match series against Australia in Cape Town on Friday. South Africa lead the series 1-0.
