NINE KILLED IN SHEBEEN MASSACRE

THREE men burst into a Johannesburg shebeen on Saturday night, demanded cash from the owner, then opened fire killing seven men and two women and wounding others. “We have a team of 30 people working around the clock to gather all the information. We are not sure yet how many were injured,” police Inspector Joep Joubert said after the 10.30pm. slaughter in the suburb of Elsburg. He said about 30 customers were in the shebeen at the time. Natalspruit Hospital matron Queen Yeni said seven people were admitted to the hospital after the shoot-out. She said those injured — all men — were in stable conditions. A reward of R500000 rand has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the three killers, who made off with around R1300 and a cellular telephone.
