A SOUTH African and a Nigerian appeared in a Perth court Monday charged with attempting to smuggle $1-million worth of heroin into Australia. South African Zomokule Mpu Mkwanazi (23), and Nigerian Francis Chukwud Umeloh (26), were charged in Perth Magistrate’s Court with knowingly attempting to import heroin. Mkwanazi allegedly had a kilogram of heroin strapped to his body when he arrived at Perth international airport Saturday. Umeloh faced a second charge of knowingly attempting to obtain or possess a prohibited import consistent with heroin. Both men were remanded in custody to reappear in the court on June 8.
