MAIL & GUARDIAN PHOTOGRAPHER HONOURED

MAIL & GUARDIAN chief photographer Ruth Motau has been honoured for her work at an awards ceremony sponsored by the South African Broadcasting Corporation. This is the second year the SABC acknowledged women who have made a difference in the media and 28 women were honoured last Friday. Motau received the same award last year. Ruth brings a quiet dignity and artistry to her work that is an outstanding example to her colleagues – while at the same time coping magnificently with the demands of parenthood, said M&G editor Howard Barrell. Her talent is evident in two of her photographs in this weeks edition – of Pregs Govender MP on page 8 and of two young South African writers on the front page of Friday. Three former M&G staff members – Mapule Sibanda, Linda Rulashe and Lizeka Mda – also received awards. – M&G
