South African Finance Minister Trevor Manuel is scheduled to present his medium-term Budget policy statement — known as the mini-budget — on Tuesday November 11, according to a proposed parliamentary schedule for the rest of the year.
The schedule — which is subject for revision — provides for the presentation of the statement at 2pm on that Tuesday, followed by Manuel’s introduction of his Adjustments Appropriation Bill and the Revenue Laws Amendment Bill.
MPs leave Parliament Friday for their spring break and constituency leave period, which will be interrupted, according to the provisional programme, with a meeting of the National Assembly on October 21 for the second reading debate of the Road Accident Fund Amendment Bill and the Traditional leadership and Governance Framework Bill.
The MPs will return to Cape Town again for the policy statement, followed on November 12 by questions to Deputy President Jacob Zuma and then to the peace and security cluster of ministers.
MPs will remain in Cape Town for three weeks until November 27 when a debate on the policy statement and the first reading debate on the Adjustments Appropriation Bill and the Revenue Laws Amendment Bill are provisionally scheduled. — I-Net Bridge
