Spanish soccer fan dies in fighting

A Deportivo La Coruna fan died on Tuesday night following fighting with fans of third division Santiago Compostela in a Spanish Cup match.

Manuel Rios Suarez, a 31-year-old father of two, died of a heart attack at the Santiago Compostela hospital after trying to separate fighting fans.

Eight other fans were injured after La Coruna’s 1-0 win.

There was also trouble at another third division club where Castellon were playing league leaders Valencia.

The match was stopped when the referee was hit on the head by a mobile phone. — Sapa-AFP
