Escape, together with Forever Aventura Resorts, is offering a lucky reader the chance to win a super getaway for six people at Aventura Blydepoort, on the edge of the beautiful Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga.
Now part of the Forever Resorts group, which purchased eight of the country’s Aventura resorts from the government last year, Aventura Blydepoort has 93 self-catering chalets sleeping from two to six people.
Prices start from R340 a unit out of season for a basic, economy chalet with two single beds in a single air-conditioned bedroom with television, bathroom with bath, kitchen with a fridge and hotplates, carport, verandah and braai facilities.
A luxury two-bedroom chalet with an open-plan lounge/dining room with television, bathroom with bath and shower, kitchen with microwave and fridge, will cost R630 out of season a night and R700 a night in season.
In addition there are two guest houses. One sleeps eight in a large four-bedroomed house with one bathroom and separate toilet. The other sleeps six in air-conditioned bedrooms with ensuite facilities downstairs.
Upstairs boasts a huge lounge with bar, fireplace, television and two-tier stoep with unparalleled views of the Three Rondavels, an enormous dining room with 12-seater table, huge kitchen with breakfast nook, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer and all equipment, scullery with washing facilities and maid’s quarters outside.
Both guest houses go for R1 465 a night out of season, and R1 680 a night in season.
“In season” counts as long weekends, public holidays and the December school holidays.
For those who don’t want to self-cater, Aventura Blydepoort has the Kadishi restaurant overlooking the Blyde Canyon, which offers buffet breakfasts, lunches and dinners at affordable prices.
In winter a huge log fire is lit inside the restaurant and in summer you can sit outside on the stoep, which is a great place for sundowners.
There are also camping and caravanning facilities. All sites are R50 a person a night and a maximum of eight people are allowed per stand. In addition there is a R5 conservation levy per stand per night.
Our competition prize is a three-night break for six people in the guest house overlooking the Three Rondavels. On one of those nights the prize-winning group will be treated to a complimentary dinner in the Kadishi restaurant.
To win, answer the following question: Which two rivers meet at Bourke’s Luck potholes?
