Terre’Blanche leaves Rooigrond prison

Right-wing leader Eugene Terre’Blanche left Rooigrond prison near Mafikeng early on Friday morning after being granted parole, SABC radio news reported.

It said the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) leader was taken to Potchefstroom to sign the parole register, committing himself to abiding by a list of conditions.

Supporters have laid on a welcome parade for Terre’Blanche in Potchefstroom later in the morning. He is scheduled to address a media conference afterwards.

The 60-year-old leader has been granted parole after serving three years of an effective five-year sentence for the 1996 attempted murder of security guard Paul Motshabi. – Sapa
