Manning Rangers collected maximum points in their first game of the Premier Soccer League 2004/05 season when they beat neighbours Lamontville Golden Arrows by 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium on Wednesday night.
Rangers led 1-0 at half-time.
The only goal of the entertaining derby match was scored by Linos Chalwe in the 41st minute. This was after a well-taken corner kick by Siyabonga Siphika.
Arrows pushed forward in numbers searching for the equaliser in the second half but their efforts did not materialise as Rangers goalkeeper John Tlale stood his ground.
He made a number of great saves, especially the one against Nhlanhla Ngubane in the 53rd minute.
Tlale was also at his best denying Rangers in the 76th minute. Rangers created a chance to increase their lead in the 71st minute when Alton Meiring crossed inside the 18 area but Teboho Tsui headed over the bar with Arrows goalie Davis Phiri beaten. — Sapa
