Pretoria police arrested four men, including a teacher, and confiscated 43 000 rounds of ammunition in Pretoria West on Saturday, police said on Sunday.
A 55-year-old teacher at Pretoria West High School was arrested after 18 000 rounds were discovered in the school’s safe on Saturday morning, Inspector Lucas Sithole said.
Earlier, responding to a tip-off, police found 24 000 rounds at a house in Pretoria West, where two men, aged 36 and 20, were arrested, Inspector Lucas Sithole said.
A third man, aged 66, was also arrested after being found in possession of 1 000 rounds that he had purchased from the two.
”Ammunition and firearms were stored in the school by the army. When they took the firearms, they left the ammunition behind,” Sithole said.
The four will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday. — Sapa
