Australia to crack down on errant Wallabies

Australia will throw the book at misbehaving Wallabies following a South African nightclub spat.

The Wallabies were forced to send scrum-half Matt Henjak home in disgrace last July after he scuffled with teammate Lote Tuqiri at a Cape Town nightclub just two days before their first Test against the Springboks.

The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) said on Friday any Wallaby misbehaving in the November tour of Europe could be docked 28 days pay and have their contracts terminated in the worst cases.

Tuqiri and Wendell Sailor, who was also out at the nightclub, were fined 500 Australian dollars ($380) and given two-match suspended sentences while prop Matt Dunning was also fined for being out late.

”Ultimately being a Wallaby is an honour that carries obligations and a great duty,” ARU managing director Gary Flowers said on Friday.

The Wallabies leave for Europe next Wednesday for five matches against the French Barbarians (November 1), France (November 5), England (November 12), Ireland (November 19) and Wales (November 26). – AFP
