Eight arrested for ‘dragging thief behind car’

Eight men were arrested on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the death of a suspected car thief in Schweizer-Reneke, North West police said.

Captain Afjee Bothma said it was believed a man spotted two thieves trying to steal a vehicle outside the Bullet Pub shortly before 11pm on Monday.

”We believe he alerted the men who were drinking inside the pub. But, when the police arrived one of the suspects was dead and another missing,” Bothma said.

According to South African Broadcasting Corporation television news, the deceased died after being assaulted and dragged behind a vehicle.

The men were expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court on Thursday. – Sapa
