President Thabo Mbeki on Tuesday joined other world leaders in congratulating Brazil’s President Lula da Silva on his re-election.
”I have the honour to convey on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of South Africa, sincere congratulations on your re-election as president of the Federative Republic of Brazil,” Mbeki said in a message to Da Silva.
”Since the advent of democracy in both countries, bilateral relations between our two nations have strengthened steadily over the years.
”The India, Brazil, South Africa Dialogue Forum attests to our commitment for promoting social and economic development.
”May I take this opportunity to assure you of the South African government’s continued goodwill and desire to work towards a further deepening of these relations,” Mbeki said. — Sapa
