A high-powered Fifa delegation is in South Africa for a five-day venue-inspection tour ahead of the 2010 World Cup, the Star newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The delegation, which was protected by a large police contingent, comprised Fifa competitions director Jim Brown, head of media operations Alain Leiblang, head of Fifa’s South African 2010 World Cup office Michael Palmer, the football body’s coordinator in the country Horst Schmidt and others.
A tight lid was kept on the proposed arrangements for the tour, although they were scheduled to inspect Safa House and FNB Stadium on Monday night and Ellis Park and Loftus Versfeld stadium on Tuesday, the Star reported.
They will then move to Rustenburg’s Royal Bafokeng Stadium and Free State Stadium.
The team is expected to visit Durban, where the World Cup preliminary draw will be held in November. — Sapa
