Jay Naidoo appointed to ITU board

Jay Naidoo, who is currently the chairperson of the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and of the J&J Group, has been appointed to the board of directors of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations specialist agency for information and communication technologies based in Geneva.

Naidoo, a former government minister, will serve a three-year term on the ITU board.

Naidoo has also been appointed to serve on the Global Health Advisory Board (GHA) affiliated to the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), the philanthropic body set up by former United States president Bill Clinton.

The CGI acts as a development catalyst through bringing together global leaders and experts to tackle the world’s most pressing problems such a climate change and global health.

Since its inception in 2005, the CGI has generated over 500 commitments in excess of $10-billion, which have benefited more than 1 000 organisations in more than 100 countries.

Naidoo’s other philanthropic roles include serving as chairperson of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, a global poverty set up to combat world malnutrition. — I-Net Bridge
