Mozambican arrested with corpse flesh

A Mozambican man was arrested in the central province of Manica after he was found in possession of human flesh barely two weeks after he was released from prison where he served time for similar charges.

The daily Notícias reported on its online edition on Thursday that the 24-year-old was arrested after he was found with parts of a recently buried corpse that he had exhumed from a grave at Nhamitchindo cemetery in Chimoio town’s Seven April Township.

It was barely two weeks that he had been released from the Manica provincial prison after serving a prison term of two years for violating graves and allegedly consuming flesh from the corpses.

The paper said he told police officers that he was unable to live without eating human flesh and that was why he had gone to the cemetery to dig up a recently buried corpse.

Pedro Gemusse, the provincial spokesperson of the national police service said the man was apprehended by people living in the area before he could consume the head of the corpse.

He was first arrested in 2005 after he was found with human flesh taken from a grave at his house in Chimoio town. He was also in possession of clothes he had taken from the corpse in the grave.

At that time he was only charged with violating a grave as Mozambican law does not have laws dealing specifically with that crime. – Sapa
