South Africa’s Department of Minerals and Energy has converted Harmony Gold Mining’s old-order mining rights into new-order mining rights, Harmony said on Monday.
Harmony has been granted 13 new-order mining rights covering all its South African gold-mining operations including its Evander, Doornkop and Randfontein operations.
The signing and execution of converted mining rights started in the Free State at the end of November with the first mining right granted covering Harmony’s Target operation.
Harmony has been granted seven mining rights in the Free State and it plans to execute all the converted Free State mining rights by December 21.
The gold producer said it had also commenced with the process of signing and executing all the other granted mining rights at the other Department of Minerals and Energy regions where its operations were located, including North West, Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
This it anticipates will be concluded by the end of January 2008. — I-Net Bridge
