Sevens: Boks set for semifinal with Fiji

South Africa advanced to the semifinals of the IRB Sevens World Series in Dubai on Saturday when they beat Australia 19-0 in their quarterfinal encounter.

The three Springbok tries were scored by Rayno Benjamin after a spectacular breakout and good off-load from Renfred Dazel, and by Robert Ebersohn and Gio Aplon.

The Springboks will meet Fiji in the semifinal after the
elimination of Samoa by Fiji (12-5) in a scrappy match.

New Zealand survived a giant scare coming from behind to edge an inspired Kenya 21-17. Collins Injera and Humphrey Kayange gave the Africans a cutting edge but New Zealand had Zar Lawrence to thank as he inspired the fight back in which Tim Mikkelson scored a brace of tries.

New Zealand will play England in the other semifinal. England beat Argentina 15-5.

Zimbabwe shocked Scotland to win through to the quarterfinals of the Bowl and now face a tougher test against France, who accounted for the US (22-12).

Wales and Portugal meet in the other last eight match after respective victories against Arabian Gulf and Georgia.

In the bottom eight, Scotland endured more disappointment on day two with a loss against Zimbabwe and now play the United States, who were
themselves beaten by France in the Shield semifinals. Georgia lost to the Arabian Gulf in the other half of the draw. – Sapa
