Ekurhuleni cops crack down on motorists

Thirty-eight drivers were arrested for traffic violations in Ekurhuleni this the weekend, police said on Sunday.

Inspector Jimmy Maboko said 20 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, 16 for driving over the speed limit and two other drivers for drag racing. A total of 407 traffic fines were also issued.

Operations began on Friday and ended on Sunday morning.

”We were conducting the operation in and around Ekurhuleni,” said Maboko.

The motorists are expected to appear before the Boksburg, Germiston and Alberton magistrate’s courts on Monday. — Sapa
