NOMINATION OF A BOARD MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL
METROLOGY INSTITUTE OF SOUTH AFRICA (NMISA)
The Measurement Units and Measurement Standards Act No. 18 of 2006 (“the Act”) established the National
Metrology Institute Of South Africa (NMISA) as a statutory body to maintain and disseminate the National
Measurement Standards (NMS) and to provide for the use of the International System of Units (SI) in
South Africa, and compare those standards with other national standards to ensure global measurement
equivalence.
In terms of Section 10 of the Act, the Minister of Trade and Industry is required to appoint board members
of NMISA to manage the organisation’s strategic affairs. Therefore, the Minister of Trade and Industry,
Dr Rob Davies invites the nomination of a suitably qualifi ed person to serve on the board of NMISA from the
date of appointment until May 2013.
Requirements
- Legal qualifi cation
- Appropriate experience of the regulatory environment and deep interest in Measurement Standards
and Metrology matters
- Experience in corporate governance
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities
- Knowledge of the broader maintenance of the SI units and primary scientifi c standards.
Board members will be involved in extensive liaison with the NMISA executive, industry, government and
other stakeholders.
Remuneration
Remuneration for board meetings is set at the level prescribed by the National Treasury.
