Krejcir Due In Court

Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of corruption.

The 42-year-old handed himself over to police on Friday, after being on the run.

His fraud charges relate to the R4,5-million claim he allegedly made to an insurance company, after managing to obtain medical documents stating that he had cancer.

He was also questioned about the death of underworld boss Cyril Beeka, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in Cape Town last week.

A list was found during a raid at Krejcir’s house in Bedfordview on Tuesday night. It included the names of Beeka, security consultant Paul O’Sullivan and a state prosecutor Riegal du Toit. Beeka was allegedly at the top of the list.

The South African Revenue Service confiscated a Lamborghini and Ferrari belonging to Krejcir last week.

Krejcir is being sought by the Czech Republic on charges ranging from fraud to kidnapping, but has staved off extradition since being detained on entry into South Africa in 2007 by claiming he is the victim of a political conspiracy in his home country. – Sapa and Staff reporter
