Jonathan Roxmouth and Louis Zurnamer revisit the madcap musical antics of famed British comedy duo Michael Flanders and Donald Swann in Hats Off! The Hilarious Songbook of Flanders and Swann.

With nothing but a baby grand piano and their off-beat sense of humour they explore the many humorous and downright silly songs of Flanders and Swann, including the classic Gnu Song, intoxicating Madeira M’ Dear and infectious Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud Ballad for Piano and Hippo. Described as an ingenious mix of Tom Lehrer, Gilbert and Sullivan and Monty Python, this comedy revue brims with catchy tunes, tongue-in-cheek chemistry and laugh-out-loud humour.

Theatre on the Bay, 1A Link Street, Camps Bay, from September 17 to October 8. Book at Computicket. Tel: 021 438 3301. Website: www.theatreonthebay.co.za.

? Back by popular demand is the Mechanicals’ production of Lovborg’s Women. It is a hilarious spoofing of Scandinavian dramatists as embodied in the mythical playwright Jorgen Lovborg, whose complexes about the opposite sex are drawn in such plays as I Prefer to Yodel and While We Three Hemorrhage. Directed by Christopher Weare, Lovborg’s Women is a starting point for the cast — Adrian Collins, Mikkie-Dene le Roux, Andrew Laubscher and Tinarie van Wyk Loots — to take a satirical look at 20th-century reactions to the genres of realism and naturalism. Three of Lovborg’s heroines are considered in this wacky comedy of remorse, lust, jealousy and revenge.

Intimate Theatre, 37 Orange Street, Gardens, until September 29. Tel: 021 480 7129. Website: www.themechanicals.co.za.
