Shilowa says strike has gone on too long

The former head of the Congress of South African Trade Unions told striking public-sector workers on Wednesday that negotiations should take place at the table and not on the streets. Mbhazima Shilowa’s comments were a sign of deepening differences between the ruling African National Congress and its allies.

Lion King opens on home soil

The Lion King opened in South Africa on Wednesday with a star-studded gala that saw United States talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey grace the red carpet. The musical is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and the South African run has been called a homecoming for the show.
