The real champion? Not yet. But close. Wladimir Klitschko’s seventh-round knockout of Calvin Brock on Saturday made for an impressive first defence of the IBF title he took from Chris Byrd in April. Now Klitschko has his sights on the other three heavyweight champions: Shannon Briggs, Nicolay Valuev and Oleg Maskaev.
Fabio Grosso and Alessandro del Piero each scored late in extra time on Tuesday to put Italy in the World Cup final after beating Germany 2-0. Grosso curled a left-footed shot past the diving Jens Lehmann in the 119th minute to put the three-time champions into Sunday’s final against either France or Portugal.
Brazil is so loaded with talent that it could probably field the best two teams in the World Cup. Lucky for hosts Germany and a handful of other upset hopefuls, the rules for the world’s most popular sporting event allow only one team per country. And who might be best prepared to upset the Brazilians?
