The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday granted bail of R20 000 to Riaz Kadwa, the son of murdered Park Lane Clinic plastic surgeon Mohamed Anwar Kadwa. Mohamed Kadwa (50) and his wife Muneira (49) were shot dead in the bedroom of their home in Crown North, Mayfair, on October 5 last year.
The murdered granddaughter of Transvaal Judge President Bernard Ngoepe was laid to rest at Klipspruit cemetery in Johannesburg on Wednesday. After pallbearers lowered the white and gold casket into the grave, soft cries from her family could be heard by some of the hundreds of mourners attending.
The South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) threatened that Monday’s Transnet workers’ strike could go on for another three days if the union did not get a ”decent” response from the parastatal. Satawu president Ezrom Mabyama said: ”We will make sure no one is left in the workplace.”
Transvaal Judge President Bernard Ngoepe said on Friday he has no reason to complain about the manner in which police searched for his murdered four-year-old granddaughter Makgabo Matlala. ”I am not in a position to comment on whether they did what they were supposed to,” Ngoepe said.

The next few days ahead of the March 1 local government elections are very crucial, African Christian Democratic Party leader Reverend Kenneth Meshoe said on Saturday. ”The work is not done … There are those who have not decided who they will vote for,” Meshoe told party councillors at the election campaign in Dobsonville.

Just a few days ago, one of South Africa’s most prominent soccer bosses, Irvin Khoza, chairperson of Orlando Pirates, buried his 30-year-old daughter Zodwa after losing her to HIV/Aids. The ”Iron Lady” was believed to have been infected by her husband and former Jomo Cosmos star Sizwe Motaung, who died in 2001, at 31.

Minister of Intelligence Ronnie Kasrils is on his way to Zimbabwe to fetch a South African agent jailed there for spying on the ruling Zanu-PF. ”Yes, Minister Kasrils is on his way to Johannesburg International airport now. He will probably board a flight at about 10am,” his spokesperson Lorna Daniels said on Tuesday.

A hostage drama at the Department of Home Affairs in Johannesburg entered a third hour at 5.30pm on Wednesday with a Soweto man holding a woman employee in an office behind closed doors, police said. The man entered the offices this afternoon, took out a handgun and pointed it at the woman.
