Dravid century helps India to victory

Indian captain Rahul Dravid stroked a 105 on Thursday to steer India to a five-wicket win over the West Indies with one ball to spare in the opening one-day international at Sabina Park. Dravid’s innings, which spanned 102 deliveries, trumped Chris Gayle’s earlier effort of 123 that led the West Indies’ 251 for six off 45 overs.

Windies chalk up another loss

Opener Chris Gayle slammed 124, but West Indies lost a record ninth consecutive one-day cricket international and Pakistan’s 22-run victory wrapped up a 3-0 series sweep on Sunday. Pakistan had already clinched their first triumph in any Caribbean series on Saturday.

Lara takes a break

Brian Lara will miss the three-match one-day cricket international series against Pakistan starting on Wednesday after the West Indies selectors decided to rest the 36-year-old left-hander. Team manager Tony Howard said he does not believe Lara’s absence is going to have much of an effect.

Dippenaar leads SA to historic series sweep

Opener Boeta Dippenaar stroked an unbeaten 61 on Sunday as South Africa secured an historic 5-0 sweep of the West Indies with a seven-wicket win in the rain-shortened fifth and final one-day cricket international. The West Indies were restricted to 138 for seven after morning rain reduced the match to 20 overs per side.

Langeveldt sinks West Indies

Fast-bowler Charl Langeveldt claimed three wickets in as many balls in the final over on Wednesday and bowled South Africa to a one-run victory over the West Indies in the third one-day cricket international at Kensington Oval. The victory gave South Africa an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.

Lara dominates first day of Test

Brian Lara smashed his second century in successive matches with a superlative 176, but South Africa earned the honours against the West Indies on the first day Thursday of the third Test. Lara dominated with some majestic stroke play, but the West Indies would have been disappointed with 292 for seven at the close at Kensington Oval.

SA work hard to save Windies Test

South Africa laboured to 85 for two in its follow-on second innings on Sunday, battling to save the opening Test against the West Indies as day four at Bourda drew to a close. South Africa, who resumed their first innings at 130 for six, were bowled out just before lunch for 188.

Hinds, Chanderpaul lead Windies attack

Undefeated centuries by opener Wavell Hinds and new captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul led the West Indies to 347 for three against South Africa in dominating the first day of the opening Test at Bourda on Thursday. Hinds blasted a career-best 188 and Chanderpaul was at 102 not out in a brilliant 241-run fourth-wicket stand.
