A six-storey apartment building collapsed early on Wednesday in the west coast city of Aalesund after it was hit by a rockslide, injuring 15 people and leaving five others missing, police said. The search for survivors was hampered when a second rockslide hit the crumpled building, which was partly built into a steep hillside.

Forty-six nations adopted a declaration on Friday calling for a 2008 treaty banning cluster bombs, saying the weapons, which kill and maim long after conflicts end, inflict "unacceptable harm" on civilians. Some key arms makers — including the United States, Russia, Israel and China — snubbed the conference of 49 nations.
Donor countries have pledged to give ,5-billion over the next two years to cover Sudan’s humanitarian and reconstruction needs, organisers of a 60-nation conference said on Tuesday. Before the Oslo meeting, organisers had hoped for promises totalling ,6-billion from the conference.
United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan on Monday called for -billion in immediate aid to help southern Sudan recover from Africa’s longest civil war. ”In the south, we will run out of food for two million people in a matter of weeks,” Annan told delegates from 60 countries at a donors’ meeting in Oslo.

Kenyan ecologist Wangari Maathai on Friday received the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize at a ceremony in Oslo, becoming the first African woman and first environmentalist to receive the prestigious award. Maathai accepted the traditional gold medal and diploma that accompanies the $1,1-million prize from the chairperson of the Nobel Committee.
Police fired shots and foiled an armed robbery of a cash transport in downtown Oslo early on Monday, as the dramatic showdown was captured on video by a crew filming a pornographic movie nearby. ”We heard a lot of noise outside, and went to check,” porn star Thomas ”Rocco” Hansen said on national radio.
Opera Software is developing a new internet browser that allows users to talk to their computer, the company announced on Tuesday. The new browser incorporates IBM’s ViaVoice technology, enabling the computer to ask what the user wants and ”listen” to the request. Opera declined to give a launch date.
