The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court warned Sudan on Saturday he will move against more officials soon if Khartoum fails to arrest suspects he has sought for a year over crimes in Darfur. Luis Moreno Ocampo told Reuters in an interview he planned to present evidence against new suspects to ICC judges before the end of the year.
Former Liberian president Charles Taylor funded and armed a rebel leader in neighbouring Sierra Leone, one of his top aides told a United Nations-backed war crimes court on Wednesday. Taylor is on trial for orchestrating rape, murder, mutilation and recruitment of child soldiers during the 1991 to 2002 Sierra Leone civil war.

The International Criminal Court’s (ICC) chief prosecutor named the first two suspects accused of committing war crimes in Sudan’s Darfur region on Tuesday. Chief prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo asked pre-trial judges to issue summonses for Ahmed Haroun, interior minister during the height of the conflict, and militia commander Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-al-Rahman.

The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor will name the first suspects accused of committing war crimes in Sudan’s Darfur region on Tuesday and human rights activists hope he will pursue senior figures.
United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will press Israel and Lebanon on Sunday to strike a deal on an international force to end a 19-day-old war, after Hezbollah threatened to strike deeper into Israel. Rice said she hoped for agreement on terms for a ceasefire to be outlined in a United Nations resolution that could be tabled as early as Tuesday.
