World number one Tiger Woods will have history on his side heading into the final round of the 89th PGA Championship after a solid one-under par 69 in the third round of the year’s final Major. Woods is hoping to win his first Major of 2007 after falling short in the Masters, British Open and US Open.

Federer stunned at Indian Wells

Three time defending champion Roger Federer was poised to make history at the Pacific Life Open Master Series, but somebody forgot to tell Guillermo Canas. Canas ended Federer’s bid to break the consecutive match winning streak, upsetting the Swiss superstar 7-5, 6-2.

Federer rolls into semis

Two-time defending champion Roger Federer continued his mastery over Americans at the US Open, beating fifth seed James Blake on Thursday to reach the semifinals. The 25-year-old Swiss superstar overpowered Blake 7-6 (9-7), 6-0, 6-7 (9/11), 6-4 to extend his wining streak against United States opponents to 27 matches.

Spirited Youzhny sends Nadal packing

World number two Rafael Nadal crashed out of the United States Open on Wednesday losing to unseeded Mikhail Youzhny, who has made a habit of ousting Spanish top seeds at the ,5-million event. The Russian defeated the two-time French Open champion and Wimbledon finalist Nadal 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (7/5), 6-1 in a quarterfinal match.

Donald on the move at PGA Championship

England’s Luke Donald was doing his best to pull away from the pack by posting four birdies on his first six holes in the third round of the PGA Championship on Saturday. Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Mike Weir, Chris DiMarco and Sergio Garcia were also firmly in the hunt at the Medinah Country Club.

Woods lurks behind PGA leaders in Chicaco

World number one Tiger Woods surged to within one stroke of the leaders, rolling in a birdie putt on 18 en route to a four-under 68 in Friday’s second round of the ,8-million PGA Championship. The United Kingdom’s Luke Donald and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson led another birdie fest on Friday.

Connors hopes to get Roddick on winning path

Jimmy Connors spent three consecutive years as the World number one, so he has a good idea of what it is going to take for fellow American Andy Roddick to return to that lofty perch. Champions struggle in Olympic ice hockey

Two of the three medallists from the Salt Lake City Games struggled on the opening day of the Olympic ice-hockey tournament, while Canada shrugged off the Wayne Gretzky storm to cruise past hosts Italy. Latvia drew with 2002 silver medallists United States 3-3, while Slovakia stunned 2002 bronze-medal winners Russia 5-3.
