Blackburn manager sings Benni’s praises

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes is hoping a refreshed Benni McCarthy can fire Rovers all the way to the first FA Cup final at the rebuilt Wembley stadium after the South African striker dumped Arsenal out of the competition. McCarthy came off the bench to score a stunning solo goal to earn Rovers a last-ditch 1-0 win over the Gunners in their FA Cup fifth round replay on Wednesday.

If David Beckham was hoping for an early return to international football, the Real Madrid midfielder will have watched Steven Gerrard’s inspiring display in England’s 5-0 defeat of Andorra with a growing sense of gloom. Mourinho refuses to claim title

Jose Mourinho has warned that the Premiership title race is not yet over, despite Chelsea establishing a commanding nine-point advantage over second-placed Manchester United with just four games remaining. The combined effects of Chelsea’s comfortable two-goal victory over Bolton Wanderers and Manchester United’s inability to beat bottom club Sunderland mean the Premiership trophy will almost certainly remain at Stamford Bridge.
