Ernie Els admitted on Monday that he would love to support the Sunshine Tour and play a number of the local events again. Els is in South Africa for his first site inspection of the Gardener Ross Golf and Country Estate to be built in Centurion. He is contributing to the design of the golf course.

Armed with a new set of irons and a remodelled swing, Warrick Druian dominated the final round of the Telkom PGA Championships on Sunday to capture the biggest title of his career. The 34-year-old Houghton professional bombarded the Woodhill Country Club with seven birdies to win the tournament by five shots.

Craig Lile turned professional on Guy Fawkes Day in 2001 and he certainly set off a few fireworks at the Woodhill Country Club during the third round of the Telkom PGA Championships on Saturday. The 27-year-old Capetonian surged into a two-shot lead after shooting a five-under-par 67 for a total of 200, 16 under par.

Nobody was more surprised than Dean van Staden to find himself in the lead midway through the Telkom PGA Championship at the Woodhill Country Club on Friday. The 39-year-old ERPM golfer fired a seven-under-par 65 on Friday for a 12-under 134 total after the second round of the tournament.

Wesley Moodie has become the new hero of South Africa’s Davis Cup team after beating Frederik Fetterlein in their Euro/Africa Group One promotion/relegation tie in Denmark. His victory moves South Africa back into Group One of the competition after two years of languishing in its lower echelons.

Ernie Els won his third Nedbank Golf Challenge on Sunday with a record-setting display he called ”the round of his career.”
Umpire Jorge Diaz has come under fire following his horrendous overrule during Wayne Ferreira’s match against Tim Henman at Wimbledon last Saturday.
