South Africa cruised to a massive 164 run victory over Pakistan in the first MTN one-day international at a packed Supersport Park on Sunday. Pakistan won the toss and sent South Africa in to bat. The Proteas made the most of an ideal batting strip and notched up a huge total of 392 for six in their 50 overs.

South Africa barely raised a sweat in defeating Pakistan by 10 wickets in front of a capacity crowd of 30 000 in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at the Wanderers on Friday night.A record first wicket partnership of 132 between Graeme Smith and Loots Bosman took South Africa to an easy victory, with eight overs and three balls in hand.

South Africa and Pakistan go head to head at the Wanderers on Friday evening in the first twenty over game between the two teams. South Africa have played four 20-20 matches, and have lost three and won just one, against Australia. Proteas captain Graeme Smith said on Thursday that he was not too concerned about the team’s record.

”In my time as South African coach, I’ve never seen a pitch behave like this,” commented Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer on the pitch at Newlands after the second day’s play in the third Castle Lager Test between South Africa and Pakistan. ”It’s not one of the best pitches produced at Newlands over the last 10 or 15 years.”

South Africa’s plans for growing the Test team will be severely disrupted if the two-match ban for Herschelle Gibbs is upheld, Proteas coach Mickey Arthur said on Wednesday. ”Herschelle is very much part of our plans, and he is beginning to find some good form again,” said Arthur.

South Africa have an uphill battle to save the second Castle Lager Test against Pakistan at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth. At stumps on the third day, Pakistan — chasing 191 to win — had eight without loss. Despite being without Shoaib Akhtar, who has a hamstring injury, Pakistan had South Africa on the back foot for most of the day.

The first day of the second Castle Lager Test between South Africa and Pakistan at St George’s Park on Friday ended with honours more or less even. After bowling South Africa out for a paltry 124 before tea, Pakistan had 135 for six at the close for an overall lead of 11 runs.

Match referee Chris Broad revealed on Monday that Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs has been banned for two Test matches in connection with remarks he made on Sunday. Broad said Gibbs had been found guilty under International Cricket Council regulations.

South Africa were in a good position at the end of the fourth day of the first Castle Lager Test against Pakistan at Supersport Park on Sunday. The first Castle Lager Test between South Africa and Pakistan was evenly poised at close of play on the third day, with Pakistan on 103 for two in their second innings, trailing South Africa by just one run. Ashwell Prince and Herschelle Gibbs resumed South Africa’s first innings on the overnight total of 254 for four.
