Half-centuries by Hashim Amla, Ashwell Prince and Herschelle Gibbs helped South Africa to recover from a disastrous start to their first innings on the second day of the first Castle Lager Test against Pakistan at Supersport Park on Friday. Fresh from their stunning comeback from one-nil down to a series victory against India, South Africa take on Pakistan in a three-Test series starting at SuperSport Park on Thursday. Proteas coach Mickey Arthur predicts a very tough series against Pakistan, who are ranked third in the world in Test cricket.
A four-wicket haul by Dale Steyn helped South Africa stage a brilliant fightback on the fourth day of the third Castle Lager Test at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday. At close of play, South Africa, chasing a target of 211 for victory, were 55 for the loss of two wickets. There was plenty of excitement in the first half hour of play on an action-packed day.
India spun a web of problems for South Africa on the third day of the third and final Castle Lager Test at Newlands on Thursday, and were firmly on top at close of play, with South Africa all out for 373 — trailing India by 41 runs. It was honours even in the first session, with Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla continuing the partnership they began on Wednesday.
A second-wicket partnership of 130 between Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla and four-wicket hauls by Shaun Pollock and Paul Harris helped South Africa to a competitive position at close of play on the second day of the third and final Castle Lager Test against India at Newlands on Wednesday.
A century by Wasim Jaffer helped put India in a strong position on 254 for three at the end of the first day of the third and deciding Castle Lager Test against South Africa at Newlands on Tuesday. It was a hot and frustrating day for South Africa after India won the toss and chose to bat first on a pitch that is turning out to be a ”belter”.

Makhaya Ntini ended the year on a high note when he took five wickets for 32 runs to lead South Africa to a 174 run victory over India in the second Castle Lager Test at Kingsmead on Saturday. India were all out for 179 half an hour after tea. Heavily overcast conditions early in the morning of the fifth and final day cast a pall of gloom over the cricket stadium.

The final day of the second Castle Lager Test between South Africa and India at Kingsmead promises to be one of high drama, with both sides still in with a chance of victory. When bad light stopped play half an hour after tea on the fourth day on Thursday, India, chasing 354 to win, had 38 for the loss of two wickets.

Umpire Ian Howell on Thursday defended the decision to call play off early on the third day of the second Castle Lager Test between South Africa and India at Kingsmead. Play was suspended early for the third successive day. When the players left the field, South Africa had 64 without loss in their second innings, for an overall lead of 152 runs.

South Africa were in some trouble on 257-8 when bad light stopped play early on the first day of the second Castle Lager Test against India at Kingsmead on Tuesday. The Proteas had been looking fairly good until a dramatic collapse saw them go from 256-5 to 257-8.
