South Africa ended the first day of the first Castle Lager Test between South Africa and India at the Wanderers on Friday the happier team, although neither side really seized the initiative. India beat the Rest of South Africa by 96 runs on the third day of their four-day match at Sedgars Park on Saturday. With rain and lightning threatening, and the light becoming increasingly gloomy, India wrapped up the Rest of South Africa’s tail-end, with the last three wickets falling for just six runs.

A century by Irfan Pathan helped India to a respectable total of 316-7 at close of play on the first day of their four-day warm-up match against the Rest of South Africa at Sedgars Park in Potchefstroom on Thursday. Pathan was not out on 111 and Zaheer Khan had nine. India, sent in to bat first, were all at sea in the morning session as Morne Morkel mowed down the top order.
